Sagarika Ghatge’s meeting with Zaheer Khan

When asked about their first meeting with Zaheer Khan, Sagarika Ghatge said, “So, we met through common friends. I mean, we have a common friend who is a very close friend of his and also one of my best friends. So, I think it was him who kind of played the role of a matchmaker—well, not really a matchmaker. I think we kept meeting, and he wouldn’t even talk to me at first because everyone used to say, ‘You know, she’s that kind of girl.’ I don’t know exactly what they meant by that—maybe that you should only talk to her if you are really serious; otherwise, there’s no point.”

She added, “She’s not the kind of girl who goes for casual flings. In short, I don’t know the exact context, but because of that, he honestly didn’t talk to me for the first few times we met. It was always just a simple ‘Hi, hello.’ I always thought, ‘Oh, he’s such a gentleman.’ And that was it. But then, obviously, we kept meeting a lot more. And yes, Angad Bedi also played a very important role in bringing us together. So, it was him and another friend of mine. I think they were both very important factors in making this happen. Honestly, we love playing sports. Even today, whenever he is free, we go and play paddle tennis, and we love it. I’m probably always the only girl playing with all the boys, but I feel like that’s the part we enjoy the most.”

Sagarika Ghatge on sports date with Zaheer Khan

Speaking of their sports date, Sagarika said, “Going to a restaurant or things like that—yes, we do that anyway, but it’s usually with a group of friends. But when it comes to playing sports, it’s like: ‘Zac, let’s play paddle.”Okay, let’s play paddle!”Okay, Sagarika and I are in. Who else is coming? We need four people.’ So, my brother gets bullied when we don’t have a player! It’s always like that, and we love it. We still do it even now. I think the cutest love language I’ve ever heard is this.”

She added, “If I have to put it in words, both of us are quite competitive. Paddle is a game where you need a partner and then obviously two other people to play. I always tell them, ‘I don’t want to be in Zac’s team because we will keep fighting!’ If anybody misses a shot, it’s like, ‘Oh, what is wrong with you?’ So, I prefer being on the other side!”
